What Makes NYC Recessionista Happy {Guest Post}

Happy Summer Solstice, y'all!


I'm Alison from over at NYC Recessionista ... and I am so happy to be here for some guest-blogging duties while Kristina and Brian are off enjoying their honeymoon. I really hope they are having a fabulous time!  Honeymoons should be filled with relaxation, cocktails with lunch, dessert every night, laughter, adventures, and quality time with each other.


To be honest, I wish I was somewhere other than NYC right now with this approaching heat wave. I know I will probably sound like a crazy person when I say this, but summer has got to be my least favorite season of all. Between the heat and humidity and the way it radiates off the buildings, the smelly subways and garbage ... I will stop there though, because this post is supposed to be about things that make me happy!


Well, there is nothing that makes me happier than fall. On what is sure to be one of the hottest days of the year, let's daydream about autumn, shall we?

My Happiness! {Guest Post}

Hey There!

I'm Victoria {mom to Bean, fiance to Muffin}. I blog over at One.Crafty.Momma. (I'd love if you'd stop by and visit)

I'm taking over Kristina's blog today to tell you a little bit about what makes me happy, and help Kristina with her Healing Through Happiness! 

I'm in the middle of planning our wedding - which is about the most stressful thing ever - and raising a pre-schooler at the same time. Bean has had his bike for over a year. He just wasn't "getting it" and I got super frustrated! So, we put the bike up for a while and the other day when he asked to try, I got it out of the garage with a little hesitation. 

He put his helmet on. 

Got on his bike.

And....started riding it. 

I was SHOCKED!! I couldn't believe it. I grabbed the camera and started taking pictures in between sobs. 

My baby... is growing up. And while I was sad, I am so proud of how big he is getting. He's so smart, and funny, and talented.

So there's my Happy. What's yours?!

Healing Through Happiness

Yesterday was a tough one even though I got a good report from the doctor. I've been cleared to go back to work today and away on Sunday. He wants me to take it easy and work up my activity level. I'm looking forward to getting back to work to see the kids but I'm really not looking forward to the questions and the looks of pity on others. Lately, when people apologize I find myself in the throws of a breakdown. I'll just remind myself to take some deep breathes!

However, yesterday I got home and received this amazing gift basket from Stephanie and her husband Mathew. Thank god for this blog world and my blog friends. Being a part of it has really had a part in saving my sanity lately.

This basket of sunshine was beautiful and the card they picked out was so perfect. 

It was filled with bright yellows and oranges!

I lit that yummy candle and my house still smells awesome! 

I can't thank them enough or emphasize how loved I felt when I received it. 

Oh and something else;

We got our wedding disk. Looking at our professional shots brings me back to that wonderful day. 

Here are just a few favorites.

 I'll miss you all when I'm away.

Healing through Happiness

So I will admit it has been a little down and depressing here at Pretty Rambles. I am working on myself day by day and minute by minute. Instead of having a pity party for one I am asking my readers and friends to share with me things that make you happy.

Hopefully we will make some more happy memories while we are away.

This is one of my happiest days. 

A week before we closed on our home. 

Our first "dating" anniversary in the same spot of our first date.

Even with all the happy moments we have shared since I still think this is one of those days that will always live in my memory as the happiest.

The smiles, the anticipation of our new life together, the wine. 

It was a good day.
