Vacation Recap

Well, I certainly didn't expect to skip almost a whole week of blogging but hey, work and life definitely got in the way last week. I'm happy to report the huge work project I had been working on is complete and I can breathe again!

Two weeks ago Brain and I took off on a 10 hour road trip to Oak Island, North Carolina. I was so excited to get away on our little babymoon trip. We had plans of relaxation on the beach and enjoying the company of one another for 6 days.

The last time we vacationed in North Carolina was 3 years ago. We were still dating. The engagement came the week after. It's amazing how things change!

So our vacation started off on a scary foot. We were just hitting the DC area when I read on Twitter that a shooting had taken place. We were stuck right before the Navy yard and could see what I assume were the ambulance taking victims to the hospital, helicopters doing their fly overs and military closing off much of DC. It was scary and our hearts were breaking for the people involved.

Once we got down to North Carolina this pregnant lady was a mess. I was swollen from top to bottom. I was unable to wear any of the shoes I had packed. I guess I didn't factor in the swelling part of the road trip. We went out to dinner and we were both out cold by 9pm.

The next several days were spent on a very empty beach and pool. Apparently, in North Carolina when the temps reach 75 no one hits the beach! We had beautiful weather the entire week. We played golf, took lots of walks and even spent some time in the gym together. I'm still sporting a pretty sweet tan that I hope lasts a little while longer. It was so nice to extend our summer an extra week.

Here are just a few snippets from our days at the beach.

I'll be back Wednesday to post a bit about our day trip to Wilmington.

23-24 Week Bumpdate

Since we were away last week I just happened to skip the update. There really isn't any significant changes from week 23 to 24.

23 Weeks
What I'm Wearing:
Cover Up- Old Navy

24 weeks
What I'm wearing
Jeans: Old Navy,
(They are awful. They are so long and I'm 5'7. They need to be worn with heels and come on I'm pregnant I'm not running around after kids all day in heels.)
White Tank: Motherhood
Pink Cardigan- Old Navy, non maternity

How Far Along: 24 weeks and 5 days!

Baby is the size of: As long as an ear of corn and as big as a cantaloupe. YIKES!!!!

Total Weight Gain: I've hit 18 pounds. Only gained 2 pounds last month so I'm pretty pleased. I haven't cut down on the eating just moving a lot more.

Sleep: While on vacation it was pretty difficult. It shouldn't have been. The mega California King bed we slept in should have been excellent for sleep but when I'm not in my own crumby, queen size bed under my comforters I just can't sleep.

Best Moment of the week:

* Lots of movement and it happens all the time!

* Spending time with my husband on our little babymoon. It was so nice to reconnect. Our daily lives can such the life right out of us and we barely have any quality time with one another.

* Being away from work. Sitting on the beach does so much for the mind and the body. I can't believe how at peace I was.
* Guest invites continue to roll in for our shower. Just a few weekends left. I can't wait.

Worst Moment of the Week:
* The 10 hour car rides turned into much longer. On the way down to NC we were stuck in DC as the shooting happened. It was extremely scary to know you could be in danger. The car ride home was so long and my body rebelled. I am so swollen and sore. I can't fit my feet into any shoes. Even my Chuck Taylors are begging for mercy! I had to wear them to work yesterday and I looked like an old knocked up lady trying to look 18. Not a good look

Miss Anything:
* Being able to wear whatever I want and feel good about it.
* Being able to have a beer while on the beach.
* Feeling sexy and pretty

Food Cravings: While we were on vacation I really didn't deprive myself of anything. I think that could be why I'm feeling so LARGE this week.

Anything make you queasy: Nope
Have you started to show? Oh boy I have. I really feel like I popped.

Gender: Neutral all the way. Everyone is guessing boy. They are all saying my face hasn't changed and I'm carrying low and small. I have a feeling it's a girl!

Symptoms: Some tightness in my hips and I think my feet have grown and they have definately gotten flatter.

Workouts: I've been doing some walking and a lot of moving and swimming.

Mood: I am feeling great thanks to a wonderful vacation! I feel relaxed and tan. I LOVE it.

Looking forward to: My best friend's wedding.

Maternity Clothes: A good mix of maternity and non maternity items.

Stretchmarks: Nothing yet. I've been using Mama Bee by Burt's Bees religiously.

Rings on or off? Both are still on but they are getting a bit tight.

Bellybutton in or out? Still in.

This week I:
* Enjoyed myself. Vacation was wonderful! I can't believe it's the last time my husband and I will be away before we have a new little one in our lives.

* Ate everything that looked good. I'm feeling it but those dinners out and deserts were worth it.

Baby Update:

* Tastebuds are developing. (Must have loved that glazed, cream cheese crousant last week.)

* Skin is becoming more opaque and even turning pink.

Momma Update:

* Mommy feels tired and swollen.

* Mommy  is having a difficult time bending over. Painting my toes is becoming quite the chore.

* Mommy is feeling HUGE.

* My nails and hair are still looking good.

Back...

We are back to the real world. Vacation was a blast but I am exhausted. This pregnant body was not made for 11 hour car rides. This morning I am swollen and sore in so many places and that is after 12 hours worth of sleep last night. I'm getting myself back into work mode although I really wish I took today off. I'm anticipating a brutal day. I could really use some happy thoughts to get me through it!

This week I'll be sure to post about our little babymoon to North Carolina but until then here are a few pictures from our trip.

If you follow me on Instagram you have probably seen most of them.

Have a fantastic Monday.

Road Trip Must Haves

We are so close to leaving for our little road trip vacation I can barely sit still. I love road trips because I honestly hate to fly and I like to make a vacation out of the trip whenever we can. Last time Brian and I went on a road trip we stopped in Baltimore at the Inner Harbor and took in Orioles games at Camden Yards. This time around we are just driving straight to the beach but hope to find some great stuff along the way. Since I'm a road trip girl here are some of the things that are a must have when we hit the road.

Road Trip Essentials

- A clean Jeep- It looks like I'm going to be hitting up the car wash to give my Jeep a little loving this week.

- A pillow- I usually take one but I have a feeling being 6 months preggo I may be needed a couple this time around.

- Sunglasses- Nothing makes for an uncomfortable ride like forgetting your glasses. To be honest I always have a spare in my car.

- Twizzlers, Sour Patch Kids, Pretzel M&Ms- You know all the good stuff that is bad for the teeth.

- Starbucks coffee followed by some seltzer and waters- I am a constant drinker. I love to have some form of fluids with me at all times. I'm hoping that doesn't backfire and we are stop 1 billion times on our 10 hour drive.

- Magazines- I love my husband but sometimes you just run out of things to talk about during a 10 hour car ride. I have trouble reading books b/c they often make me car sick but magazines, short stories help that significantly.

- Ipod with some good downloads- I'll need to update my ancient 2nd generation ipod before we go. It still works perfectly!

We are off in just a few short days. I'll catch back up with everyone when we get back. Have a fantastic week. Follow me on Instagram for some vaca adventures.

Fall Bucket List

Today seems like the perfect day to dream of my Fall Bucket List. Why you ask? Well the temptature spiked yesterday and it was  just about 90 degrees out. When it's 90 and there is no pool option it isn't fun any more. I'm usually such a crank pot when summer ends but this year is a little bit different. A beach vacation in the middle of September extends the summer a bit longer and with a baby making his or her arrival in January makes for a very exciting time in our lives.

Fall is my most favorite time of the year. Here are just a few things on my Fall Bucket List this year.

- Apple picking at our favorite orchard.

- Fall inspired maternity pictures like this one.

- Sunday hikes with Brian and Bogart.

- Enjoy my best friend's wedding!!!!

- Visit the Great Jack-o-lantern Blaze for the first time.

- Go to the Bear Mountain Oktoberfest.

- Endulge on some cider donuts and Applewood Orchards.

- Pumpkin Picking.

- Bake an apple crumb pie, extra crumbs please!

- Have a bonfire with friends.

Bumpdate- 22 Weeks

It would be difficult for me to post anything today with out mentioning the way I'm feeling 12 years after the tragedy of 9-11-01. This quote basically sums everything up for me.

"Some memories are so strange to you, so unlikely, so outside the realm of the plausible, that you find it difficult to reconcile them with the fact that you are the person who experienced the events you are remembering. Never Forget."

What I'm wearing:
Leggings and cardigan-Target
Dress- Kohl's (non maternity)
No shoes because my feet were getting a little swollen.

How Far Along: 22 weeks and 5 days!

Baby is the size of: A spaghetti squash

Total Weight Gain: Staying strong at 16 pounds. I don't weigh myself so I'm sure that is not an accurate number. I have an appointment this Friday so I'm sure the next update will have a new and BIGGER number.

Sleep: Sleeping has continued to get better. I find myself waking up less than I did in the very beginning. I seem more relaxed when I sleep.

Best Moment of the week:

* Lots of movement and it happens all the time!

* On Saturday night after an awesome bachelorette party for a friend I got home to Brian and upon Brian saying a few words baby started moving around like crazy.

* Getting ready for vacation!!!!

Worst Moment of the Week:
* HEARTBURN attack! On Sunday night I was reduced to tears due to terrible heartburn. I have been so lucky in this pregnancy and I have felt fantastic for the majority of it so I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come.

Miss Anything:
*Being able to wear whatever I want.
*Being able to bend down and stretch with out feeling tight all over.

Food Cravings: Having no real cravings this week.

Anything make you queasy or sick: Nothing other than the terrible heartburn.

Have you started to show? Yes

Gender: Neutral all the way. Everyone is guessing boy. They are all saying my face hasn't changed and I'm carrying low and small. I have a feeling it's a girl!

Symptoms: Some tightness in my hips and I think my feet have grown. Some of my ballet flats I've had for a year or more are feeling really tight.

Workouts: I've been doing some walking.

Mood: I am feeling good these days. I'm getting excited for so many exciting thing headed our way.

Looking forward to: VACATION!!!!

Maternity Clothes: A good mix of maternity and non maternity items.

Stretchmarks: Nothing yet. I've been using Mama Bee by Burt's Bees religiously.

Rings on or off? Both are still on and fitting comfortable.

Bellybutton in or out? Still in.

This week I:
* Started packing for vacation. It's much easier when you only have a select amount to pick from. I'm planning on bathing suits and cover ups the entire time!

* Started getting back RSVPs for the shower and noticing some stuff has already been purchased!!!

* Started feeling the baby move around all the time.

Baby Update:

* Lips, eyes and eyelids are becoming more pronounced.
* Tiny tooth bumps are begining to form.
Momma Update:
* My hair looks pretty awesome. It is shiny and feels great too. There is just a lot of it!!!
* My nails look great too. For the first time in my life they are growing and strong! They almost look fake.

This Weekend I...

This weekend just seemed to fly by. I cant believe it's back to work already. This week is going to be a killer at work. We have 2 staff out and I have lots of stuff to do before our vacation/babymoon next week. I can not wait to head south and hit the beach in North Carolina. This girl can not wait.

Early Saturday was spent selling some goodies from an online gargae sale and with that cash I treated myself to some new maternity jeans from Old Navy. I'm in LOVE!!!

On Saturday night I got to celebrate my bestie at her bachelorette party. We had a blast. The non preggo gals started the day off at a winery and I met them later for dinner. We went to an awesome place on the Hudson River called Billy Joe's Rib Works. We ate out on the deck with the breeze from the water. It was a great night even if I was just sipping my seltzer!

As they were heading to the club next door for some dancing all I could think of was this scene from Knocked UP. Remember this line "I can't have old, pregnant bitches running around. It's just crazy"? I chuckle every time I think of it.

On Sunday I met up with a cousin and went to the Warwick Farmer's Market. We topped it off with lunch at our favorite cafe.

Sadly the weekend ended terrible for me. I was up till 4:30 Monday morning with some of the worst heartburn EVER. Oh lord, I was reduced to tears. I tried everything including tums and sleeping while sitting up straight. Even now I feel terrible. I think it's the heartburn and the complete lack of sleep.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend!

Happies and Crappies!

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

HAPPIES

- I only worked 3 days this week. It felt like heaven! I think if I could work part time I'd be a much happier person!

- It's September! My favorite time of the year. Apple picking here I come!

- I'm looking forward to my best friend's bachelorette party this weekend.

- I'll be spending some time with my cousin on Sunday. Our relationship hasn't been the best recently so it's nice that we get a chance to spend some time working on it.

- We have been hiking and walking a lot these days. My body is feeling better than ever!

- I'm getting so many compliments on the way I look lately. It's so sweet especially when your body is growing in all sorts or crazy places and you don't feel sexy all the time.

- Baby G moves around like crazy! FINALLY! Baby is moving around a ton as I'm typing this! The movement happens mostly at night but sometimes in the morning like today.

CRAPPIES

- I'm very sad that my best friend lost her father over the weekend. I will be attending his wake tonight. I feel so very sad for her and her family. Sending lots of love to my friend Jess today and always.

Maternity Style

I have been very lucky to be wearing the majority of my pre pregnancy clothes these last few month as my tummy gets bigger...Who am I kidding, its not just my tummy. It's my rack, butt and arms are getting bigger too. Most days it is difficult getting dressed. My most commonly worn outfits consist of cotton summer dresses. I've invested in maternity jeans and some Old Navy tanks. My tummy is still relatively small and hasn't popped yet so most maternity shorts are still too large and unflattering. Since fall is right around the corner I have a feeling I'm going to have to step up my game and start putting real outfits together. I've found some inspiration via Pinterest of course.

All these ladies look so beautiful and confident. I feel great and I strive to look that good as my belly as well as other parts grow!

Bumpdate- 21 weeks

How Far Along: 21 Weeks!

Baby is the size of: A pomegranate. She/he is about 10.5 inches long and 12.07 ounces.

Total Weight Gain: Staying strong at 16 pounds!

Sleep: Sleeping has continued to get better. I'm falling asleep later than usual but sleeping through the night has gotten easier.

Best Moment of the week:
* I felt a kick on Saturday. It was pretty awesome!
* Getting the mega crib box out of the middle of our living room. We have no room for it in the nursery so it has been just sitting there. Since I started tripping over it on a daily basis we finally made the decision to get it out!
* Getting out and hiking again the last few days.

Worst Moment of the Week:
* Dealing with the issues we are having with Bogart. He had an incident with another dog last week and it has caused some issues with Brian, myself and a new baby coming home.
* A good friend of mines father passed away over the weekend. I just feel so terrible for her and her family.

Miss Anything:
*Being able to wear whatever I want.
*Being able to pick up things that are heavy an do everything for myself.
*Being careful with saving money for the baby rather than spend like we are used to doing.

Food Cravings: French Toast! I can't get enough!

Anything make you queasy or sick: This may sound nuts but I can't sit in our rocking chair with out getting queasy. Is that weird?

Have you started to show? Yep.

Gender: Neutral all the way. Everyone is guessing boy. They are all saying my face hasn't changed and I'm carrying low and small. I have a feeling it's a girl!

Symptoms: Swollen feet and backaches

Workouts: I've been doing some hiking and it always makes me feel fantastic afterwards.

Mood: I had a rough week last week. It was stressful and exhausting but I'm glad it's over and hoping for a less stressful week coming up.

Looking forward to: More movement. I felt a little something earlier in the week and then a slight kick the other day. I think it had to do with the stress. Getting the nursery done instead of living in transition.

Maternity Clothes: A good mix of maternity and non maternity items.

Stretchmarks: Nothing yet. I've been using Mama Bee by Burt's Bees religiously.

Rings on or off? Both are still on.

Bellybutton in or out? Still in.

This week I:
* Changed these questions a bit. I was getting bored with all the usuals!
* Sent out shower invitations.
* Decided on a few locations for maternity photos
* Prepping for our baby moon and a couple of weeks.

Baby Update:
* Baby has a sense of touch and can feel when I rub or poke my tummy.
